2022 Must-Have Wedding Decor
Planning a wedding is all about personal style! From finding the perfect dress to choosing your cake design, you’ll have a lot of opportunities to give your special day a unique touch. One place where you can really make an impact is in the selection of your wedding décor.
There are so many different wedding décor elements, it’s easy to overlook some of the most important “must-have” items. The following checklist will provide you with some inspiration and help you make sure you don’t miss any details.
Wedding Ceremony
Your wedding ceremony is one of the most important parts of the day, but it’s also often one of the shortest. That means that your guests aren’t going to be spending a lot of time here, so there’s no need to spend too much of your budget decorating your ceremony space.
Focus your attention on making the alter beautiful since it will the backdrop for many of your wedding photos. You’ll also want to make sure you have plenty of comfortable seating for your guests. As you begin to design the space, make sure you don’t forget to include:
- Welcome sign and any other signage (ex. no photos)
- Attractive and comfortable seating
- Aisle décor and an aisle runner
- Alter décor
- Wedding programs
Cocktail Hour
Most of the mingling will happen during the time between when your ceremony ends and when your reception begins. This makes your cocktail hour a great time to show off your style. As you’re planning the décor for this space, think about how your guests will interact with each other, what they’ll be drinking, and what they’ll be doing.
Focus your efforts on jazzing up the bar area, drink, and snack stations, creating a unique seating chart or escort card display, and mixing in some interactive activities for your guests. Some of the décor items you may want to add to the space include:
- Signature drink signage
- Custom cocktail napkins
- Unique drink stirrers
- Bar décor
- A guest book table
- Lawn games / photo booth
- A card and gift station
- Lounge area
- High top tables
Some couples also choose to add a memory table. This is often used to honor lost loved ones who cannot be there to celebrate with you. Other options include displaying photos of your parents’ and grandparents’ weddings or a selection of childhood photos of the bride and groom.
Reception
There are so many beautiful wedding venues to choose from, there’s a good chance that your reception space will already have an awe-inspiring presence. Still, since this is where your guests will spend most of the evening, it makes sense to splurge a bit on your reception décor.
You’ll have a lot of room to get creative here, and the décor you choose will really depend on your personal style, the number of guests attending, and the overall layout of the space. Some items to consider include:
- Hanging décor or installations (like chandeliers)
- Backdrop for the head or sweetheart table
- Cake/dessert table décor and signage
- Wedding hashtag signage
- Decorative lighting
- Wedding favor display
Table Décor
When your guests sit down for dinner, they’ll be seated for a while, so you’ll want to make sure your table design is gorgeous. Be sure to pay attention to the space that is at eye level – that’s where the magic happens. Don’t forget to add the following items:
- Unique table linens and napkins
- Beautiful dishware, flatware, and drinkware
- Dinner menus (if applicable)
- Table numbers
- Centerpieces / florals
- Chair back décor
- Candles
