6 Questions to Ask When Searching for the Perfect Wedding Venue

Finding the perfect wedding venue is one of the most important parts of planning your big day. While you may initially start searching for a gorgeous location that takes your breath away, there’s more to a great wedding venue than just good looks.

Not only will asking the right questions help you narrow down your choices, but it can also help prevent any unpleasant surprises. Before you even think about saying “I Do” to your wedding venue, make sure to ask these six important questions.

1. Is My Desired Wedding Date Available?

Asking this question right away can help you quickly narrow down your choices. With many wedding venues booking out 12 months or more in advance, you’ll want to confirm availability as soon as possible. If your date is available, consider quickly putting down a deposit to hold your spot.

2. What Are Your Deposit, Cancellation, and Refund Policies?

While you will want to reserve your date as quickly as you can, it’s important to understand your wedding venue’s policies when it comes to payment and refunds.

Before you commit, make sure you’re comfortable with the total price and everything it includes and that you can comfortably meet the payment schedule. Also find out about their cancellation policy and the latest possible date to change your reservation.

3. How Many Guests Can Your Space Accommodate?

There are few things worse than falling in love with a wedding venue, only to find out that it can’t accommodate the wedding of your dreams. Be sure to ask whether the venue has multiple dining rooms and how many guests each space can comfortably fit. Then, confirm that at least one available option works with your plans.

If you’re planning an outdoor wedding, make sure there’s an indoor option in case of inclement weather and don’t forget to ask how many guests can fit into this space.

4. Are There Hotels and Transportation Options Nearby?

If you’re having guests come in from out of town, you’ll want to be considerate of their needs. Finding a venue with multiple hotels nearby will give them the most flexibility.

You’ll also want to find out if there’s public transportation, taxis, or driver services available. After all, you won’t want your guests driving after consuming alcohol.

5. What Are the Menu Options?

A great menu can go a long way towards ensuring your wedding reception is one to remember. Find out whether the wedding venue offers in-house catering or if you’ll need to bring in your own vendors. If you’re required to use their caterers, make sure the offerings are appropriate for your budget and your personal tastes. Also, don’t forget to ask whether they can accommodate any dietary restrictions.
